Road Scholar Released from Prison

NEWS! At long last, my movie ROAD SCHOLAR is available on YouTube

It was the second documentary (after Michael Moore's Roger and Me) to have a theatrical release that year, a PBS version, and a full showing on Ted Koppel's Nightline. It won the Peabody Award, Golden Gate Award, Best Documentary in Seattle, and the Chris Award.

Directed by Roger Weisberg, photography by Jean de Segonzac, edited by Alan Miller, ROAD SCHOLAR was released by Samuel Goldwin in 1993... and then it disappeared into classrooms, legend, and rumor. Pirated by professors, loved by fans, and badly copied from VHS, it was not (until now) available for viewing. It is a timely and hopeful story of America in these days of stupidity and theft of our humanity by machines. And it’s funny as hell

"Mr. Codrescu, with the deadpan burlesque of a jaded outsider, rightfully assumes his place among the keener chroniclers of the American spirit, 1990s style. On film as on the radio, his work is defined by the tensions at play between humor and sentiment, between one-liners and aphorism, and between immigrant optimism and dissident cynicism." - The New York Times
